Pardais Academy attracts European architects to learn more about granite.

  • Pardais Academy is a granite exploration workshop aimed at architects and landscape architects.
  • It allows architects to get a better understanding of granite and what it is possible to construct with a rock apparently difficult to mold.
  • Granite is a noble product for decoration of interiors and exteriors that confers beauty and durability.

For architects one of the biggest dilemmas is the selection of the best and most suitable material. The Pardais Academy aims to help architects better understand granite and what it is possible to construct with a rock apparently difficult to shape.

Granite is considered a noble product for decoration of interiors and exteriors, and has advantages ranging from the refinement and beauty that confer to the environments, the durability and resistance.

Taking into account the challenges of construction whose works and rehabilitations are a source of concern for architects and engineers, it is the selection of the most suitable materials to apply, which makes difficult the final choice.

The Pardais Academy will present a practical and curricular program for architects for 3 days (8 to 10 November).

The inscribed architects come from North and Central Europe to see live the granite mines and to know better this unique and rich stone in the North of Portugal, more precisely in Alpendorada, Marco de Canaveses.

In addition to the field sessions, participants will attend the sessions of renowned Portuguese architects and architectural offices who will share their experiences and better creations with granite, such as the office of Cannatà & Fernandes (Porto), PROAP, (Lisbon), João Rapagão (Porto). To corroborate the value of granite scientifically, Dr. Patricia Santos, a geologist, will elucidate the trainees on the technical capabilities of Portuguese granite. Continually, the company that created this academy, Pardais Granites, will show some of the most difficult and creative pieces that have already created in granite and will reveal the solution found.

On the last day, Saturday, guided by the architect João Rapagão, participants will visit the Port and the most emblematic and unique granite buildings of the unconquered.
